Lambing BOOT CAMP
Come get the experience you need to confidently deal with anything that comes your way during lambing. You will see more lambs born in one day at our Lambing School then you would at all the University lambing schools in the USA put together. Do you want to sit around whishing for ewes to lamb or do you want to get in there and get hands-on? I just added our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Section. CLICK HERE Where: Just south of Milton-Freewater, OR. When: Feb. 1st through March 15th 2008 We are going to lamb 1200 ewes. This will be good experience, if you have lambed your own flock of sheep and would like more experience or if you have never lambed before. How: We will lamb our flock in jugs (small pens inside a shed). Each ewe/lamb will receive one-on-one care. What to expect: - Experience 20-120 lambings per 24 hours depending on what day you sign up for.
- Reposition lambs in the birth canal.
- Tub-feeding.
- Warming lambs.
- Bring ewes that have lambed or are about to lamb in from the yard to the jugs.
- Vaccinating and marking ewes in the jugs.
- Ear-tagging lambs.
- Moving ewes with lambs to new pastures and pens.
- Moving dry ewes (ewes without lambs) to new pastures and pens.
- Accounting for lambs.
- Grafting lambs onto mothers that are not their own.
- Mother lambs and teach the ewe how to mother.
- Load ewes with new lambs on a trailer and ensure survival.
- Trail ewes with new lambs.
- Prevent lambs from losing their mothers in the pasture.
- If you have a sheepdog and would like to work them, time will be set aside for working your dog.
Details: We provide dinner each day. Shelter can be provided if needed. If you have an RV space will be made. Fee: $50 per day with a three day minimum. We require a 50% deposit when you enroll.
